K-9 SOS & Los Robles Animal Hospital
are proud to introduce
Puppy Preschool & Private Obedience Training
Puppy Preschool
Puppy training begins the moment you bring that bundle of energy home. Puppy Preschool’s goal is to teach you, the owner, how to set limits your puppy can understand, how to properly socialize your puppy into domestic life, and how to communicate with your puppy.
The first 16 weeks of a puppy’s life are most critical; in this period, most puppies can develop up to 90 percent of their attitudes toward people, other animals, and their environment. Unfortunately, over 5 million pets are euthanized annually, usually by owners who never gain control their cute, new pet. Therefore, it is critical you begin an educational program with your puppy as close to 8 weeks as possible and no later than 14 weeks, so your puppy does not become a statistic.
Your puppy must have been in your home for at least one week and seen your vet to receive his/her first shots before attending the first session. This gives you a chance to get to know your puppy while insuring the puppy’s health.
For $100.00 you will receive a private consultation and three puppy group classes. Puppy Preschool classes are held on Saturday mornings for 1.5 hours (earlier in the summer months & later in the winter months for everyone's comfort). The cost is $130.00 if you cannot join a group class & need your own time slot. Consultations can be scheduled during the week or on Saturdays. Families are encouraged to attend both the consultation & the classes.
Private Obedience Training
Socialization helps domesticate your young puppy, but obedience training is the key to clear and effective communication between yourself and your dog. Because this training is based on mutual communication and respect, it is the answer to a majority of dogs’ behavior problems.
The most expedient and effective method of training is for the trainer to do the actual obedience training and then educate the owner/family. Initially, the owner and dog come in for an evaluation. If the owner decides to pursue training, the dog will be dropped off daily (usually no earlier than 8:00 a.m. but exceptions can be made) and picked up daily by 1:30 p.m. (If this pick up time is difficult, we can arrange drop-off at Los Robles Animal
Hospital's daycare for the days your dog is in training, and Los Robles will
only charge you for a half day for each afternoon your dog stays).
The initial evaluation is $50.00. The trainer decides how long the dog needs to be in training. Basic On-LeashObedience (heel, sit, auto-sit, down, stay, intro to come) is 3-5 days, the time depending on the dog and decided at the consultation. This training, at $130.00 per day, includes a 5’ handmade leather leash, a training collar, as well as Go-home lessons with individualized worksheet for the owner/family when the dog is picked up each day.
K-9 SOS also offers a Comprehensive On-Leash Obedience (basic skills +motion commands, extended stays, come—all with hand signals—and our popular placemat). This is a 3-5 day program. Upon completion of these skills, if the owner is interested, the owner & dog can be evaluated for The Off-Leash Program. Transition from leash to off-leash is a 5-10 day program, dependent on the individual dog.
Please talk to the trainer if there is a drop-off or pick-up problem. Otherwise, dogs not picked up by 2:30p.m. will be taken to Los Robles and will be charged a $25.00 traveling fee to deliver the dog, and LRAH will charge whatever fees the dog incurs while staying, and another $25.00 traveling fee if the trainer is expected to pick up the dog in the morning.
ALL services must be paid for at the consultation--no exceptions.
